The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a game full of possibilities and creativity. You can explore the vast land and sky of Hyrule, build your own devices and vehicles, fuse weapons and items, and use Link's new powers to overcome enemies and puzzles. But with so much to do and see, you might need some guidance and advice on how to make the most of your adventure. That's why we've compiled this list of tips and tricks for players in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Exploration Tips
With so much to see in TotK, you won't want to miss out on these important features:
- Visit every Skyview Tower. These towers don't just add a new region to both the sky and land sections of your map, they can send you shooting straight up to the sky. This is useful for reaching high places, finding secrets, and gliding around with your Wing Glider Device.
- Follow the Blupees. These mystical blue rabbit-like creatures can be found near cave entrances. If you follow them, they will lead you to the opening, and sometimes show you a safe path through the cave or lead you to treasure. They also drop rupees when hit with an arrow, so sneak up on them from high ground and use your bow to get some extra cash.
- Use Recall on enemy projectiles. Recall is one of Link's new powers that lets him manipulate objects with his mind. You can use it on enemy projectiles, such as arrows, spears, or rocks, to send them back at your foes. This can save you ammo and deal some damage at the same time.
- Use Ultrahand to find secrets. Ultrahand is another new power that lets Link grab and move objects from a distance. You can use it to find hidden items or passages by moving rocks, crates, barrels, or other things that might be blocking your way. You can also use it to build bridges or ramps with wood planks or logs to reach new areas.
- Use your Wing Glider Device creatively. The Wing Glider Device is a Zonai invention that lets Link glide through the air with wings attached to his arms. You can use it to explore the sky, reach high places, or escape danger. But you can also use it in other ways, such as:
- Launching it with Recall. If you have trouble launching your Wing Glider Device without a Rocket or launchpad, you can use Recall to do it instead. Move the wings (with an attached fan, of course) over the side of a ledge in the air with Ultrahand, then put it back on the ground. Stand on the Wing Glider Device, then use Recall on it. Once it's over the ledge, cancel the Recall and you'll start flying.
- Attaching it to a horse. If you have a trailer hitch for your horse (which you can get for two Pony Points at any stable), you can attach your Wing Glider Device to it and create a flying horse. This can be useful for crossing large gaps or reaching high places with your horse.
- Attaching it to a mine cart. If you fuse a shield and a mine cart together, you can create a skateboard that you can use to grind across rail systems. But if you attach your Wing Glider Device to it, you can create a flying skateboard that can soar through the air.
Combat Tips
Combat in TotK can be challenging and rewarding. You'll need to use your skills, weapons, and powers wisely to survive. Here are some tips to help you out:
- Fuse all your weapons to increase durability. Weapons in TotK have durability like in Breath of the Wild, which means they will break after repeated use. But unlike BotW, you can fuse weapons together to increase their durability and power. You can fuse weapons of the same type (such as swords or spears) or different types (such as swords and axes) to create new combinations with different effects
- Fuse weapons with rare materials to get special effects. You can fuse weapons with rare materials, such as gems, Zonai parts, or monster parts, to get special effects. For example, fusing a weapon with a ruby will let you shoot fireballs that bounce off surfaces, while fusing a weapon with a blue boss Bokoblin horn will increase its damage and durability. You can also fuse Zonai weapons with Zonai parts to boost their power.
- Fuse arrows with materials to get different effects. You can also fuse arrows with materials to get different effects. For example, fusing an arrow with a Keese eyeball will create a homing arrow that follows your target, while fusing an arrow with a bomb flower will create an explosive arrow that detonates on impact. You can also fuse arrows with food items to create bait arrows that attract animals or enemies.
- Unfuse weapons to get your materials back. If you fuse a weapon with a rare or valuable material by mistake, or if you want to use the material for something else, you can unfuse the weapon and get your material back. To do this, you need to go to Tarrey Town in the east side of the map and talk to Pelison, the Goron child in the city square. He will unfuse your weapon for 20 rupees. This is the only way to unfuse weapons without destroying the material, unless your weapon has the Fuse Recycling passive ability that lets you keep the material when unfusing it in your inventory.
Crafting Tips
Crafting is another new feature in TotK that lets you create your own devices and vehicles using Zonai technology and various materials. You can craft things like rockets, fans, wheels, wings, propellers, and more. Here are some tips to help you craft better:
- Use the Zonai Device Workshop to craft devices. The Zonai Device Workshop is a special crafting station that lets you create Zonai devices using batteries and other materials. You can find one in each region of Hyrule after completing a certain quest or challenge. You can also find one in your own house after buying it from Bolson in Hateno Village.
- Use batteries wisely. Batteries are essential for crafting and powering Zonai devices. You can find them in chests, shrines, or by defeating certain enemies or bosses. You can also buy them from Beedle or other merchants for 100 rupees each. Batteries are limited and not renewable, so use them wisely and don't waste them on devices you don't need or use often.
- Experiment with different device combinations. You can combine different devices together to create various vehicles or machines that can help you travel, fight, or solve puzzles. For example, you can combine a rocket and a wing to create a jetpack that lets you fly high in the sky, or combine a fan and a propeller to create a helicopter that lets you hover and move around. You can also combine devices with other objects, such as mine carts, barrels, or horses, to create more unique vehicles.
- Use Ultrahand and Recall to attach or detach devices. You can use Ultrahand and Recall to attach or detach devices from your vehicles or machines at any time. This can be useful for adjusting your speed, direction, or balance while moving around. It can also be useful for switching between different modes of transportation depending on the terrain or situation.
Secrets Tips
TotK is full of secrets and hidden surprises that you can discover by exploring, experimenting, or following clues. Here are some tips to help you find some of the secrets in the game:
- Look for Zanmik Shrines. Zanmik Shrines are ancient structures that contain puzzles and challenges that test your skills and reward you with Spirit Orbs. You can use Spirit Orbs to increase your health or stamina at any Goddess Statue. There are 120 Zanmik Shrines in the game, and you can find them by looking for their orange glow, following Sheikah Sensor beeps, or using other hints.
- Find and defeat King Gleeok. King Gleeok is a secret boss that you can find in the Hebra region. He is a giant four-headed dragon that breathes fire, ice, lightning, and poison. To find him, you need to go to the Hebra Peak and look for a large cave entrance on the north side. Inside, you will find a Zonai Device that requires four batteries to activate. Once you activate it, a portal will open that will take you to King Gleeok's lair. Defeating him will reward you with a Zonai Dragon Helm that grants you immunity to all elemental attacks.
- Complete the Heroines' Secret quest. The Heroines' Secret is a side quest that takes place in Gerudo. It's where you'll meet a character named Riju who wants to learn about the history of her clan's warrior culture. To complete this quest, you need to find and examine seven statues of Gerudo heroines scattered around the Gerudo Desert and the Gerudo Highlands. Each statue has a clue that leads you to the next one, and the final one will reveal a hidden entrance to a secret dungeon. Inside, you will find a powerful weapon called the Scimitar of the Seven that belongs to one of the legendary Gerudo Champions.
